- This month we are proud to present Jerry Schwarz, the worldÆs
- leading expert on C++ Iostreams.

- Abstract:

- Iostream Patterns
-
- Following current fashion I will discussion patterns of use of
- iostreams. The talk emphasizes ways in which users can extend
- iostreams as opposed to ways to use the existing classes. The
- patterns discussed will include: filter streambufs, effectors, and
- binary data streams. A running example throughout the talk is a class
- for indenting output. New features of iostreams in the emerging
- ANSI/ISO standard will also be discussed.

- Bio:

- Jerry Schwarz received his Ph.D from Syracuse University.
- While at Bell Labs he was an early user of C++ at. Based on the
- earlier stream library (designed by Stroustrup) he developed the
- iostream library which was released with cfront 2.0. He has been
- active on the C++ standards committee since it was formed. Since
- moving to Silicon Valley in 1989 he has worked on compilers for
- several hardware and software startups.

- Exit Hwy 101 at San Antonio Road. Drive West, turn north
- on Middlefield Road. The Center is on the left hand side.
- The auditorium is on the south end of the Center. If you cross
- W. Charleston you have gone too far.
- Alternate from 280:
- From Hwy 280, get off Page Mill/ Arastradero. Drive down
- Arastradero, cross El Camino, go to Middlefield, make
- a right and a right past the shopping center into the Center.

- theater is a corridor extending the entire length of the
- complex. Head north on the corridor. The auditorium
- is a large room with glass looking in on your right.
